The 2026 GOP midterm convention kicks off tonight in Dallas. It’s the first midterm convention of its kind by either party, and President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance are both set to headline on alternating nights.
President Trump spoke to reporters before boarding Air Force One to head to Dallas, and he predicted a “tremendous crowd.” He said: “We’re going to explain what we’ve done… The economy is very strong, the investment in our country. The investment in our country is the biggest in the history of any country!”
This will be a key opportunity for the Republicans to build momentum ahead of the November general election, and RNC Committeewoman Debbie Georgatos expects the successes the Trump administration has already had to be the focus. “It’s a lot of talk about specific policies, about closing the border and stopping this mass migration. These trials of people coming up to America,” she said.
Georgatos also wants to see the realities of what Democrats retaking power would look like highlighted. According to her: “Flooding America with illegal aliens, and then lying about it to the media when they were asked, that was the future the Democrats had in mind. They showed you during the four years of the Biden-Harris administration.”
She also says this could be a great chance to point to the Democrats as the party of socialism and Marxism. “Communism is being sold by the Democrat party as just a form of niceness and generosity, but this would be a monumental shift away from America the free, to America the communist,” she said.
