Investigators are calling it a strange accident: The death of a motorcyclist who accidentally hit a backhoe that may have been "hot."
According to the Houston Police Department, the man on the motorcycle was traveling along Highway 249 near Greens Road north of the city when he struck the construction machine along the road.
A backhoe is bigger than a tractor and slow-moving.
Investigators say the motorcyclist was killed in the impact.
The man operating the backhoe decided to flee, and it's believed the big excavating machine may have been stolen from a construction site not far away.
A Houston Police spokesman said Sunday that it appears the operator then moved the backhoe into a grassy area and then disappeared.
Now investigators would like to talk with him.
He could be charged with failure to stop and render aid.
