Reactions to the Democratic victories in New York, New Jersey, and Virginia continue to pour in, and now some Republicans have started calling out Trump, seemingly blaming him for the defeats. So what's really going on here?
One of the few New York-based Republicans, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, seemingly blamed Trump's immigration policies for the loss, saying, "I think that the pendulum cannot go too far, where you're then going way too far is going after people who have no criminal history, who have been here for decades."
She went on to suggest that the Republicans simply go after extremely violent criminals and let other illegal aliens get away with breaking into the United States. That leaves the question: would that really be a winning strategy for Republicans?
University of Houston Downtown political science professor Dr. Jacquie Baly suggested a much simpler strategy. She says that when it comes to messaging, "It's important for the President to double down on the policies that have been influential. Focus on what has been working for the American people."
She says rather than backing down, Trump should continue delivering the policies he campaigned on and was elected for, and added, "He did very well with Latinos and Hispanics around the border states because of his strong stance in making sure American citizens are protected along those borders."
