One Year After Hurricane Beryl, Do Houston-Area Residents Still Need Help?

It's been one year since Hurricane Beryl, and according to a new survey from Rice University, 1 in 10 Houston area residents say they still need help with recovery.

"Unfortunately, like every disaster, full recovery will take probably the better part of ten years" said Mark Henry, Galveston County Judge, "That's something that the county has always been committed to. We will continue to work and get people restored as best we can."

And what about in Montgomery County?

"I don't hear much about it, in terms of people needing help anymore" said Judge Mark Keough, "The people have moved in the right direction, my emergency management have made available to any of our constituents what they need, to get whatever they want."

The study also found that the majority of residents say they trust local leaders, more than state and federal authorities.

"We're just trying to make sure that anything that went wrong during Beryl, which was largely limited to the utility companies, doesn't go wrong again if it's anything within our control" Judge Henry told KTRH.

72% of those surveyed say they are better prepared for the next storm.
