The proposal for Texas congressional districts has been introduced, and it includes some major changes.
The map would virtually eliminate the seat previously held for years by the late Representative Sheila Jackson Lee and the late former Mayor Sylvester Turner.
That seat would essentially merge with the seat currently held by Democratic Representative Al Green.
Overall, Republicans are expected to gain around five seats in Texas during the 2026 midterms if this map is adopted.
Democrats are, of course, pushing back against it. The Texas Democratic Party released a statement calling the proposal "a power grab for Donald Trump."
Texas House Democrats are also expected to attempt to break quorum and flee the state during the special session in order to prevent the redistricting.
