A 2-year-old is reportedly in a trauma unit at Houston's Memorial Hermann Hospital after being hit by a car on Sunday in the Cleveland area north of Houston.
The child's family said the toddler was accidentally hit by a car driven by a relative.
That child's parents scooped up the youngster and headed for a hospital when they found a Liberty County Sheriff's Department officer, who helped them by calling for an ambulance, which allowed the emergency room at HCA Cleveland Hospital to prepare for the toddler's arrival.
In assessing the child's condition, doctors decided it was critical and special care would be needed, so LifeFlight was called to take the toddler to the Houston Medical Center.
The Liberty County Sheriff's office said the child was taken into surgery after arrival at Memorial Hermann.
