A Houston Police officer is recovering from an overnight traffic accident on the southeast side.
He had signaled a car to pull over to the side of Maxey Road between I-10 the East Freeway and Highway 90 about 1:20 Sunday morning and was climbing out of his patrol car when he happened to look to look to his left.
There he saw a car barreling through the darkness toward him along the shoulder.
Having just second to react, he jumped into his patrol car, allowing it to absorb the impact of the oncoming vehicle.
That officer is reported to be suffering from a leg injury but otherwise doing okay.
The driver of the car along the shoulder was believed to have been drinking, according to police, who are awaiting results of an intoxication exam.
