Dem Senator Blocking Trump With Method He Once Decried As Abuse

Doing as the Democrats do, they are throwing everything at the wall to try and delay President Trump in his agenda and seeing what sticks. There has been lawfare, talks of impeachment, and 25-hour filibusters. All of it has failed spectacularly, as the President moves full steam ahead on his agenda. Just when you think they have learned, out comes yet another play from the Democrats to halt the inevitable.

Democrat Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz is attempting now to block more than 300 of President Trump's nominees from swift confirmation votes. All of it in some fruitless attempt to appease the Democrats shrinking base. The Senator is doing this, despite saying in the past that doing such a thing is an 'abuse of power.' Pot, meet kettle.

Shawn Fleetwood of The Federalist says this hold that Schatz is attempting essentially forced individual hearings in committee on every single nominee, this delaying the inevitable.

"He is placing holds on each individual nominee, forcing these committees to vote on them one at a time...basically just to stymie the process," he says.

Schatz's blocks include the over 300 Trump nominees, and also at least nine bipartisan foreign relations bills. Schatz has said his reasoning lies in accusing the White House of 'lawlessness,' and the gutting of USAID. Because of course a Democrat would want to continue wasteful government spending.

This method has been used on the flip side before, though. Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville during the Biden Administration attempted putting holds on military officials' promotions as obstruction and anti-ethical to the Senate's responsibilities. Eventually, that failed when even GOP members sides with Democrats on the issue.

Back then, Schatz had a lot to say about the matter, going so far as calling it an abuse of power.

"He accused Senator Tuberville of abusing the power of advice and consent, suggesting he would never do something like this unless it were extraordinary circumstances," says Fleetwood.

The gutting of wasteful government spending is not an extraordinary circumstance. Saying the White House is acting 'lawlessly' is also not an extraordinary circumstance, especially since the claim holds no water.

But this is what is to be expected of Democrats. They are against something unless it works in their favor. It is the quintessential example of the pot calling the kettle black.

"Hypocrisy is part of it, but I think part of it is also hierarchy, they do not think they have to play by the same rules," Fleetwood says. "They view themselves as elites, greater than Republicans...and that they do not have to abide by the same standards."

Once again, this type of action is just what we have come to expect from Democrats, and another instance highlighting why no one has a shred of respect for the party anymore.
