President Donald Trump is reportedly wanting to turn up the heat even more with tariffs.

The Washington Post reported on Saturday that the president urged some of his senior advisers to take a more aggressive stance on tariffs. Recently, Trump brought back the idea of a universal tariff that would apply to most imports from any country, but it's unclear how serious of an idea that is.

Just last week, President Trump announced 25% tariffs on foreign-made cars and auto parts. Those tariffs are expected to take effect April 2.

White House Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing Peter Navarro said tariffs will help with their mission of making America great again.

"Tariffs are tax cuts, tariffs are jobs, tariffs are national security and tariffs are great for America," he told Fox News over the weekend.

Trump has also expressed regret over not implementing broader tariffs during his first term as president. He blamed previous members of the administration for holding him back.

Trump said he is open to finding deals with countries in order to avoid U.S. tariffs too. A global trade war has escalated the past few months between the U.S. and multiple countries including Mexico and Canada.
