New DHS Sec. Kristi Noem said earlier this week that she plans to "eliminate" FEMA. And many believe that will actually be a good thing.
"FEMA really just provides federal funding after disasters" said Chris Edwards, economist at the CATO Institute, "We don't need the federal funding."
That's because state and local governments handle the vast majority of problems themselves. FEMA is then brought in to oversee, but as we saw during the Biden-Harris administration, they picked giving money to illegals, while ignoring hurricane victims that were Trump supporters.
"FEMA doesn't have a great record, it does need management reforms" Edwards told KTRH, "So, anything the Trump administration can do to make the agency leaner and more effective would be a positive."
Both Noem and president Trump have said they want the individual states to determine how to correctly use funds and resources, not a left-leaning bureaucracy.
"State governments can raise the money themselves and have budget reserve funds ready during natural disasters" noted Edwards, "FEMA is really not crucial after most natural disasters."
According to reports, discussions on how to dismantle FEMA have already started.
