The Fed Meets; What Will they Do with Interest Rates?

The Federal Reserve is set to hold its March meeting this week. So, what can we expect as a preview?

"This meeting they will punt, I think they're just looking for an opportunity to punt" said national economist, Peter Morici, who does not expect the Fed to cut interest rates.

"No I don't, I think that they'll just stay put" Morici told KTRH, "I think they'll decide inaction is the best thing they can do at the moment."

The Fed cut interest rates three times to end last year, but everything is lot different so far this year under president Trump.

"It's a very uncertain time for the Fed, even with a calm and well composed president with a clear plan that he's executing on a time table" noted Morici, "I don't think they should cut rates at this point. Inflation to date as we've seen it, is stubborn."

In January, president Trump demanded that the Fed cut interest rates immediately. Speculation has already begun about a possible cut in May.
