Spring's Hewlett Packard Enterprise To Lay Off Employees

An unspecified number of layoffs are expected in the Houston area now that Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HP) plans to lay off about 5-percent of its workforce over the next 18 months.

The company said it intends to use attrition as another way to cut payrolls, deciding on a case-by-case basis which jobs that come open will not be filled again, as the company cuts positions in addition to laying off workers.

HP has about 2,000 employees working at its headquarters in the Spring area and in Houston, but the company hasn't said so far how many Southeast Texas employees will be let go..

HP has said the job cuts will save them about $350 million; the company employs about 60,000 people worldwide.

A total of 2,500 of them are expected to be gone by the end of 2026, when these planned job cuts are finished, HP said.

HP Enterprise CEO Marie Myers said last week that the cuts are not directly tied to President Donald Trump's tariffs, but the president's economic moves are a matter of concern to her, and her company will be watching closely.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise was split off from the old Hewlett-Packard Company in 2015. Enterprise specializes in software, producing servers and network equipment and consulting services.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise then became a separate company from the personal and retail consumer computer maker now known as HP Inc.
