Movie Stars Lobby Legislature To Bring Movies to Texas

There's a movement afoot to bring more movies and TV shows and videos to Texas, but the name of the game is reducing taxes get the producers to come here, so now there are plenty of movie stars who say the Lone Star State needs to make some compromises in order to Go Hollywood.

Former Houston Film Critics Society President Joshua Starnes is joining with stars like Billy Bob Thornton, Dennis Quaid, Renée Zellweger, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in urging the Texas State Legislature to offer more tax breaks to film and video production companies.

"That's what bringing in large companies to other states, because large productions are calling for large tax breaks," he says, and large productions are the ones that come to cities and towns and spend big money with local merchants.

But Texas is a natural destination, he says, for Hollywood productions looking to get away from high taxes and endless permits and permissions. Texas has beaches, plains, desert and highlands, and of course the breathtaking mountains of the Big Bend.

"And obviously we have the personnel, we have the will, and we have the background," he adds.

Now it's up to the state legislature.
