The secret service said it shot a man near the White House early Sunday morning during an armed confrontation.
The Secret Service was told on Saturday that there was a man en route to Washington who was thought to be suicidal. Just after midnight, a man matching the provided description was spotted with a weapon at the intersection of F and 17th Streets Northwest. The incident happened about a block west of the White House near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
There was an exchange of gunfire and then the man from Indiana was shot and taken to a D.C. hospital. His condition is unknown.
No Secret Service personnel were injured.
