Vice President JD Vance made a stop in Eagle Pass, TX, Wednesday to see how the southern border is looking after about a month and a half under President Donald Trump.

Vance was joined by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. The group toured a section of the border in Eagle Pass which was one of the hot spots for border crossings during the Biden-era border crisis. Since January, there's been a 98% drop in illegal border crossings.

"The reason why this particular site has gone from over 1,500 crossings per day to 30 crossings per day is because President Trump has empowered and, in fact, demanded that his whole government take the task of border control seriously," Vance said Wednesday.

Just last week, the Trump administration announced that 3,000 more National Guard troops would be sent to the U.S.-Mexico border in the coming weeks. This even after it was reported that there were only 8,326 encounters at the southern border last month. That is down from 189,913 in February 2024.

The Trump administration has removed more than 55,000 illegal immigrants from the United States so far. VP Vance said the support for border patrol and law enforcement agencies will continue to come.

"This is impossible to do without the men and the women on the ground who are actually doing the hard work," said Vance. "They just want to be empowered to do their jobs and President Trump has made that possible."
