A Texas 'DOGE' Sounds Great, But It's Easier Said Than Done

It's not making noise like Elon Musk is in Washington, but Texas now has it's very own 'DOGE' committee. And they are not quite the same.

"That's not what this is" said Andy Hogue, who is now a political correspondent for 'The Hayride', "It's all up to the speaker's office on how successful or how aggressive this committee becomes."

That speaker of course, is Democrat backed Dustin Burrows who is joined by two chairmen. One Republican and one Democrat, and between the three of them, they decide on what 'DOGE' can or cannot look into. And that's just the first procedural hurdle.

"It has to hear the bills referred to it" Hogue told KTRH, "Now it could obviously issue a report or make recommendations, but the only official action it can take is to take actions on the bills that are referred to it by the speaker's office. So it's all up to the speaker's office."

So will it be just talk? Or will this be a serious agenda item in Austin?

"It could be this committee is very successful but then again if the speaker's office doesn't like it and wants to maintain the status quo, it can be just a big hype machine" noted Hogue.

We shall see.
