It's Official: Pop Will Not Return This Season

After multiple rumors, San Antonio Spurs head coach Greg Popovich informed his players today that he will not be returning this season.

In a statement, Popovich said: I’ve decided not to return to the sidelines this season. Mitch Johnson and his staff have done a wonderful job and the resolve and professionalism the players have shown, sticking together during a challenging season, has been outstanding. I will continue to focus on my health with the hope that I can return to coaching in the future.

Popovich suffered a mild stroke back in November, and his long term future with the organization is up in the air. Now at age 76, Popovich has been the Spurs head coach since 1996, and is also the team's president of basketball operations.

The Spurs have struggled after the season ending vein thrombosis for star big man Victor Wembanyama, and are currently 13th in the Western Conference a 24.33.
