It's been nearly two months since Sean Teare took over as the new Harris County D.A., and yet there has already been some issues. So how should we assess his start?
"From my perspective what I've seen, there are some issues that have come up" said Houston based attorney and legal analyst, Gary Polland.
Those issues include, multiple cases dismissed due to lack of evidence, a capital murder suspect that was released accidentally, and of course the UH rape suspect who was also released and then on the run for almost two weeks
"It is a red flag for what the heck is going on" Polland told KTRH, "The problem we've run into over the years is the D.A.'s office quite frankly has been understaffed. During at least in the last administration, the Democrats on County Commissioners Court led by Rodney Ellis were squeezing the D.A.'s office."
As for the future? Polland points out a potential battle down the road, with several bail-bond reform bills currently pending in Austin.
"As a Democrat I think he's concerned that citizens who are accused of crimes are not treated unfairly" noted Polland, "So there's a balancing act there and he's going to have to resolve that. If you're worried about political pressure from those pulling you in one direction or the other, that could create problems for you down the line."
