New Texas Bill Would Allow Property Owners To Shoot Down Trespassing Drones

In response to what went down last year with all of the drones in New Jersey, there's a new bill that has been filed in the Texas legislature that would allow property owners to shoot down trespassing drones.

The bill is House Bill 2916.

"Essentially, this bill allows a property owner to disable, destroy, or damage unmanned aircraft if it's flying over their property" said Mary Elise Cosgray, reporter with The Texan.

Unwanted drones are on the rise, literally here in Texas.

"I would say there's a fair amount of Texans who've experienced a drone flying over their property, and they've wondered what it was" Cosgray told KTRH, "Whether it was a hobbyist who's flying it for fun, or if it was government purposes."

There are 3 requirements that must be met for shooting down a drone. Basically, it must be on legally owned property by the legal owner, it must be with a legal firearm, and it must be by someone who is not prohibited from shooting a gun."

Skeptics of the bill believe this could also be an attempt by state rep. Jeff Leach to regain some public support ahead of the primaries, after he went against the Texas GOP and voted for Democrat backed Dustin Burrows.
