The derangement from Democrats over the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been certainly something to watch. The party that has screamed about Republicans being corrupt and wanting to make the wealthy even more wealthy, somehow is against cutting wasteful government spending. They were fine with people losing their jobs over a COVID vaccine but throw a hissy fit when federal workers are fired for doing absolutely nothing at their jobs.
Yet somehow, they seem to forget this was not some new idea, thrust upon them with no warning. Not only did President Trump make is clear before inauguration this department would exist. But this similar idea was proposed by none other than former President Barack Obama, and then Vice President Joe Biden, in Obama's first term. But it goes back even further. President Dwight D. Eisenhower also proposed a similar idea to keep America prosperous.
But none of that matters to Democrats, because they have removed themselves from the realm of common-sense governance. Scott Powell at the Discovery Institute says this is long, long overdue.
"Getting accountability on government spending is imperative...we are running a $2 trillion deficit right now," he says.
That deficit grows with each passing minutes, while the total U.S. debt as of the writing of this article stands at just over $36 trillion. All of that has been a result of gross mismanagement of funds, useless program funding, and blatant corruption that almost equates to money laundering.
There is already a summer deadline for raising the debt ceiling as well for President Trump, or the government will effectively shut down. So, what DOGE is doing is beyond necessary, it is required.
"It has to be recognized that if we do not restructure, cut government spending, and increase government revenue...the current path is bankruptcy," says Powell. "That means we have betrayed the future, and betrayed future generations."
So, considering the country is teetering right on the edge of being solvent, you would think that Democrats would want to get on board with saving it. But, alas, that is not in the playbook. Instead, they continue to bash the department simply because it is Donald Trump's.
Many of them claim that the reason they oppose it is because benefits will be slashed for millions. They paint some doomsday scenario of people living in the streets, and diseases running rampant. But that simply is not true, and not what DOGE is here to accomplish.
"We want to cut the wasteful spending, and the absolute misappropriation of resources," he says.
Powell adds that anyone who has willingly participated in the rife corruption needs to be in jail.
