It's been just over a month since president Donald Trump was sworn in for his 2nd term, and he is already taking questions about his successor in 2028.
During his Super Bowl interview with Fox's Brett Baier, Trump was asked if he viewed V.P. JD Vance as his successor for the Republican nominee in 2028. Trump politely said "No, but he's very capable." And now many conservatives are wondering why he said what he said, and didn't say yes?
"It's a strategy" said Republican strategist and host, Matt Locke, "Because if you come out and say Vance is my predecessor, it would leave some people to write and believe that Trump's a lame duck, he's not going to get anything done, he's already turned over the reins to JD Vance."
But Trump is getting things done. A lot of things, and that is the focus right now. Again, he's only been in office for a month.
"JD Vance is going to be the successor to Trump, I believe that whole-heartedly, I think Trump believes that too" Locke told KTRH, "I think Trump is being very strategic trying to move through DOGE and spending. The Republican Party has a very, very deep and young bench."
A list that includes Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramiswamy, and of course JD Vance. But right now, Trump is focusing on his own agenda and getting it done.
