The Texas House of Representatives is working on its own version of Elon Musk's DOGE initiative. The effort aims to streamline government operations while eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse within state government.

Even in Texas, the DOGE team is expected to uncover a variety of issues to address. David Dunmoyer with the Texas Public Policy Foundation said, "We currently don’t know who the bad actors are or where they might be. We’re going to open up the books, and I think we’ll see a lot of waste we can cut through, even in our first session unleashing this."

Dunmoyer added that when the Texas DOGE team identifies areas to reduce spending, the savings should be returned to taxpayers. He explained, "Where are we allocating taxpayer dollars toward efforts that aren’t the role of government or aren’t working efficiently? Whatever money we find there, ultimately, it belongs to taxpayers."

He emphasized that no one can use money more efficiently than taxpayers themselves, and finding ways to return funds to them while cutting government inefficiencies would be a win for Texans.

The committee is being led by Rep. Giovanni Capriglione, who, according to Dunmoyer, will likely utilize AI and other emerging technologies to support the DOGE mission.
