Texas State Representative Brian Harrison has filed House Bill 2572, which would prevent taxpayer money from going to the American Library Association (ALA), which he claims has become "radicalized." He says the ALA has gone completely "woke" under its recent left-wing president.

Representative Harrison pointed out how Emily Drabinski, ALA's president during the 2023-2024 term, published an article titled, "Queering the Catalog: Queer Theory and the Politics of Correction." Harrison went on to say that, "She wants libraries, in her own words, 'to become politically engaged from a queer perspective.'"

Harrison also called the ALA "one of the most anti-parent, anti-Texas organizations." He argued that Texans shouldn't be forced to pay for it, or any other organization that opposes their values, with their tax dollars.

He said, "We should be leading the fight against taxpayer-funded indoctrination, and against dangerous Marxism and Socialism. We sure as hell should not be subsidizing it."

Harrison emphasized that this bill would not cut off funding to libraries; it would simply prevent taxpayer-funded libraries from giving their money to groups like the American Library Association, whose statewide contract was canceled in 2023 due to its "wokeness."

Harrison also says that if the Texas House is serious about governing conservatively, they'll pass the bill.
