Astros to Trade Pressly: Sources

The Houston Astros are closing in on a deal to send relief pitcher Ryan Pressly to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for 20-year-old right-handed pitcher Juan Bello, according to sources.

It just over two years ago that the 36-year-old Pressly signed a two-year $30 million Astros contract extension with options Pressly has fulfilled, KPRC-TV reported Sunday night, citing league sources.

And Pressly also had a full no-trade clause in his contract, which he's now willing to waive in order to get his trade deal to the Cubs in motion.

As part of the deal, the Astros will contribute to paying Pressly's salary.

He was acquired by the Astros from the Minnesota Twins in 2018 and was key in the 2022 Astros World Series title, especially in his closing of five out of six games against the Phillies.

All that stands in the way of the trade is a review of medicals, the sources said.
