The first Israeli hostages have been released by Hamas as a part of the cease-fire deal between them and Israel.
Hamas freed three hostages, all women, on Sunday in exchange for some 90 Palestinian prisoners. An Israeli official said Romi Gonen, Doron Steinbrecher and Emily Damari are all in "good condition" after being illegally held in Gaza during the 470 days of war.
The first phase of the cease-fire calls for Hamas to release 33 hostages over five weeks. Israel will end up releasing major terrorists, including those who have murdered dozens of civilians, in the exchange. The ceasefire is expected to last for six weeks.
President Joe Biden claimed credit for the cease-fire agreement.
"It now falls to the next administration to help implement this deal," Biden said Sunday.
Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Damon said it was Trump and his team that got the agreement through.
"They pushed the negotiators, Qatar and Egypt, to be more involved and they put the deadline down," Damon said. "We are thankful for their involvement."
The agreement signed was the same proposal put out back in May. Hamas turned down the deal back then.
