The arctic blast is here, and freezing temperatures are hitting the entire Houston Area, especially in the northern counties like Montgomery, where they've been preparing for a deep freeze scenario since the beginning of last week.
Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough says that preparation has paid off. He said, "Montgomery County is ready. We're pretty good at weather events, and getting better and better with each one that takes place. I've activated our office of emergency management, and we're ready to roll."
He told KTRH that they've done their best to get out ahead of this freeze, saying that, "Our resources and assets have been pre-positioned, just like we did in Hurricane Beryl and other events. We're ready to go right now; we're not waiting till the last minute."
Keough also said that Montgomery County roads have already been treated for ice, and county commissioners are standing by with sand. He also says TxDOT is standing by to salt iced bridges.
Despite these measures, he warned drivers to be cautious, saying, "It's not gonna be like a hurricane, but it is gonna be something where people are gonna have to pay great attention to being on the roads." He says if you don't have to go out, don't.
Montgomery County is currently not expecting any widespread power issues, but they have already prepped warming centers in case they become necessary.
