Dallas ISD has come under fire after their "LGBT Youth Program Coordinator" was caught trying to find loopholes that could be used to get around Texas' transgender sports laws. That official is Mahoganie Gaston, who was exposed by an undercover journalist.
Corey DeAngelis, a Senior Advisor with Accuracy in Media, who broke the story, said, "We're talking about biological boys playing against biological girls at the K-12 level. And a lot of parents don't want that. That's why the law was passed."
DeAngelis went on to say that this is an example of why we need better oversight in these middle management positions inside public school systems. He said, "I don't know to what extent this is happening, but if you have a few bad actors, they can ruin it for the entire system if they get into the right positions."
He said school choice is the perfect way to create more of the bottom-up accountability that would help prevent situations like these. He also says that parents who find out about something like this happening in their children's schools should be able to just pick up and go to a school that aligns more closely with their values.
As of the publishing of this article, Mahoganie Gaston was still employed by Dallas ISD, and they had not responded to a request for comment.
