The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for much of Southeast Texas.
Gov. Greg Abbott has called on the Texas Division of Emergency Management to activate state emergency response resources in response to the severe weather.
The tornado watch is in effect for the following nine counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, Polk and San Jacinto.
Storms are expected to bring heavy rain, lightning and hail. It's also possible there could be an isolated tornado or two. Weather experts are saying that this is a fast-moving system and the southern part of the state should be mostly dry Friday.
The watch will be in effect until Thursday night at 7.
