National security officials are still investigating the drones that are flying over parts of the east coast and are trying to assure people that they are not in danger.
Senior Biden administration officials hosted a call Saturday with representatives from the FBI, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Security Council (NSC), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Defense (DOD) on the drone sightings. One official even said he views the outcry about the drone sightings from residents and local and state officials as "a slight overreaction."
An FBI official said during the call that his agency has received 5,000 tips about the drones since November. The flying objects were first spotted above northern New Jersey in mid-November with more sightings made in the area over the past few weeks. They have since been seen flying over parts of New York, Connecticut and some other nearby states.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said additional resources are being sent to places like New Jersey to help with the ongoing investigation.
"I want to assure the American public that we in the federal government have deployed additional resources, personnel, technology in addressing the drone sightings," said Mayorkas.
Other top national security officials have said that they have found no evidence of large-scale unmanned drone activity. There is also no evidence of involvement from foreign adversaries with the drones.
