In the -you can't make this up- category, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice now admits, they have no idea the whereabouts of 5 prison inmates who were recently released for medical reasons.
"This is absolutely absurd" said Andy Kahan, with Crime Stoppers, "That you will not let the public know who these individuals were, that some how magically disappeared."
Which is not supposed to happen. Inmates released on medical parole are only supposed to be for extreme conditions.
"If they were so close to death or dying, how have they just suddenly gone up and disappeared without anybody noticing they were gone?" Kahan told KTRH, "You can't make this stuff up."
Kahan says they are still fighting to obtain the identities of the fugitives, but the TDCJ says the can't release them because of HIPPA laws.
"Well guess what, you lost your caveat as a medical parole once you crossed that line, and you became a fugitive"" noted Kahan, "Game over, but for whatever reason, the TDCJ is not forthcoming with releasing any of that information."
Kahan adds that he's also concerned there could be even more medical fugitives, on the run.
