In the last decade or so, sexually explicit books have become more commonplace in school libraries. Long gone are the days of reading "I Spy" or "Where's Waldo." Instead, children are now forced to read things like "I Spy a Queer Guy," and about how the sexuality of Waldo is ambiguous. Those are not real books, but you get the idea. The real-life examples are actually worse.
Naturally, it has become a hot button issue nationally. In Texas, there have been fights over it at every school board meeting from Galveston out to El Paso. All of it part of a bizarre agenda pushes from the Left to try and indoctrinate gender identity questions into young children.
While sexually explicit books in schools are already banned in Texas, liberal educators have found their loopholes to keep pushing them onto the shelves. So, now the state Board of Education is declaring they want more control over public school library books.
Jean Burk of College Prep Genius says this just takes things a step further towards enforcement for true Conservatives in the leadership.
"There is a lot of inappropriate stuff going on...so this is just highlighting what is wrong with the school system," she says.
The board will formally ask the Legislature to grant it control over the review process and amend current state law to streamline the process. IN short, they want to cut off any loopholes that might be found by these educators and stop the explicit material from going to children once and for all.
No, this is not a book ban either, as much as the Left wants it to be. This is not burning any books that mention evolution, or some authoritarian grab at suppressing information. It is simply a way to keep children from growing up reading material that they are too young to grasp.
"It is not like they are saying if you want your kids to read these books, they can't...they are saying if a child is under the jurisdiction of the education system, they should not be able to get them without parental consent," she says.
As you would expect, the proposal has already been met with pushback from Democrats, who say the process should be under control of local school districts. But time and again, these districts have shown a clear mandate to circumvent state law and do what they want.
This proposal more than anything brings common sense back to the table, which has been not-so-common in the last eight to ten years.
""With the administration coming in...I feel there will be more oversight into what is going on," says Burk.
There is finally a mandate from the people that they do not want this liberal ideology crammed down their children's throats. Republicans are now taking action to ensure their voices are heard, and put a stop to the madness.
