Bum Rush: Border Surge Expected Ahead of Trump

The days of open borders are numbered with Donald Trump set to return to the White House in January. But in the meantime, the situation at the border could get worse before it gets better. At least one migrant caravan is already moving through Mexico, while thousands amass near the southern border trying to get across before Trump takes office.

Texas has been bracing for this surge since before Election Day, with border arrests rising in October. But it is likely to accelerate now that Trump has been elected. "Katy bar the door...that's what we expect to see (at the border) between now and January 20th," says Bob Price, associate editor of Breitbart Texas. "Another caravan of about 2,500 migrants just departed headed for Mexico City, where they will disperse and head to various border locations, as directed by the cartels."

"We've also had reports there are 10,000 migrants already at the southern border, just waiting for the right time to make it across," he continues.

Border Patrol and Texas DPS are doing what they can to stave off any rush at the border, but that's not the only place migrants are entering. "Keep in mind that the Biden administration is also bringing migrants directly into the country using the CBP One application," says Price. "And we expect that will continue until January 20th."

"At the same time, our expectation is that the cartels will continue to push across as many migrants as they can until Trump takes office."

The surge may already be underway. Texas Scorecard sent a reporter to Eagle Pass after the election, and saw groups of illegals crossing the river into Texas.
