Immigration Court Backlogs Creating De Facto Amnesty

It looks like Democrats may have finally gotten their amnesty after all, thanks to a massive backlog in immigration and asylum cases. This means it could be years before an illegal alien is able to be deported.

Texas Scorecard Senior Editor Brandon Waltens told KTRH, "People are being given court dates, essentially, but the immigration judges are forced to dismiss these cases because the backlog is so big."

Waltens says this is exactly why policies like Trump's "Remain in Mexico," which required those claiming asylum to wait in Mexico for their court hearing, were such good policies. Waltens said, "It's the exact reason the policy was put in place, so that you don't have a situation where these immigration courts are clogged up, and the illegal aliens here are allowed to run out the clock."

Waltens pointed out that at this point, it's going to take a while to actually solve this problem. He says before we even begin to work on a long-term solution, we have to close the southern border, so we can stop the problem from getting worse.

Once the border is closed, and a policy like Remain in Mexico is reinstated, we can work on hiring more immigration judges in order to handle the backlog of already pending court cases.
