Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is pushing back against federal authorities that he says have been selectively targeting businessman and Trump surrogate Elon Musk.
Musk has earned the ire of the U.S. Department of Justice in recent days because of his voter registration program that targets supporters of First and Second Amendment rights in swing states, and his super PAC, which encourages voters to sign a petition supporting those rights.
Musk's efforts target only legally eligible voters, but reports are emerging that the DOJ has threatened Musk over the program. Attorney General Ken Paxton has now filed a Freedom of Information Act, or "FOIA," request with the DOJ, in order to investigate what he calls the "selective targeting" of Elon Musk.
Paxton also pointed out in a press release how the Biden-Harris administration has actively undermined efforts across the country, and here in Texas, to guarantee more secure elections. On October 22, Paxton filed a lawsuit against the Administration because they wouldn't help Texas verify the citizenship of potentially ineligible registered voters.
Paxton says this is yet another example of the weaponization of the DOJ against their political opponents. He stated, "At every turn, the federal government has become adversarial to states as we work to protect fair elections and the rule of law in this country.”
