The long-awaited expansion of Bush Airport’s Terminal D was officially opened on Tuesday. The billion-dollar West Pier expansion project not only adds more international gates, but it can also accommodate larger aircraft.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire called the new Terminal D-West Pier more than just an addition, it’s also a statement about Houston's commitment to growth and innovation. “It boosts our economy by creating jobs, but it also reminds us that we must continue modernizing all our airport infrastructure to meet the high standard this pier has set."
The airport also announced that all four lanes on North Terminal Road will be open ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. That means people arriving at Terminals C, D, and E shuls see less traffic congestion this holiday season.
Airport officials say the next major project will be the International Central Processor, which is scheduled to be complete in 2025.
