There's more Democrat on Democrat conflict, as Mayor John Whitmire continues the clean-up in the city of Houston.
At a news conference today, the mayor called out City Controller Chris Hollins for suspected 'pay for play', after learning that Hollins was selling sponsorships to an upcoming city run 'Investors Conference' next week. Also included in the packages, special access at a 'private dinner', all for just 100k.
"Quite frankly, I'm disappointed" Mayor Whitmire said, "100k sponsorship if you want to have private time at a dinner with the Controller. This is nothing but the appearance of 'pay to play' in Houston, Texas."
The mayor also added that it was unacceptable, and needs to stop.
As for Chris Hollins, he addressed the media today as well, and didn't hold back.
"The mayor is wasting all of your time today" Hollins said, "He owes an apology for this, this is a huge nothing-burger that is meant to distract from the mayor's failed leadership on fiscal responsibility at the city."
Hollins then blasted the mayor for all of the sponsors with the mayor at the big annual 'State of The City' event. Needless to say, this story is not over.
