Harris County Preps For Large Early Voting Turnout

It's expected to be a busy early voting period in Harris County.

The Harris County Clerk’s Office held a news conference Thursday morning to provide information on early voting for the Nov. 5 General and Special Elections. Early voting begins Monday, Oct. 21.

Both parties are pressing hard for people to vote early and not wait until election day if you don't have to. The GOP especially is keeping a close eye on how the elections are handled this year in Harris County too.

Former Chairman of the Harris County Republican Party Jared Woodfill said there are some concerns among voters this election season based on how the county has historically struggled with running elections.

"We've had a lot of problems in Harris County with the election administrators that we've had over the past few cycles based on the past history of Democrats who have been running the elections," Woodfill said.

Harris County, the largest county in the state by population, has gone through two different election administrators in recent years because of being poorly-run by Democrats, according to Woodfill.

Checking in on the Clerk's Office will be important as will keeping tabs on who's actually voting. Woodfill said there have been issues with voter rolls in the past too.

"We have to make sure the voter registration rolls are accurate because there have been issues and concerns there," said Woodfill. "We want to make sure that the elections are fair and honest."

There will be a total of 88 voting centers open during early voting.
