Port Strike pause shows cracking in Democrat foundation

For decades in the United States, the unions have been staunchly Democrat supporters. They endorse Democrats every year, because at least traditionally, the Democrat party is the one seen as who cares most for the American worker. But as we know, the current Democrat party is a complete removal and shadow of its former self. It has gone to an almost extreme Marxist level of Democrat, and it is becoming unrecoverable.

The unions this election cycle have been mostly mum on endorsing either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, which is unusual. It is the first time the Teamsters have not endorsed anyone since 1996. It is not just them. The Firefighters Union chose recently not to endorse anyone, which was another blow to Harris. Meanwhile, the Border Patrol Union voiced support for Trump, as the border crisis rages out of control.

The latest union to go take the spotlight has been the International Longshoreman Association, who went on strike last Tuesday. Docks closed as workers crossed the picket line, which clogged up shipping lanes in the United States. However, it came to a swift 'end,' when it was announced two days later, the expired contract would be extended to January 15th.

Even with what the Democrats claim is a victory, all of it is a sign that the foundations of the Democrat party are starting to crack.

Debbie Georgatos of America Can We Talk says there are deep dynamics at play here.

"The Democrat party has become pro-globalist...they support globalism more than the economy and the American worker," she says. "And the unions are starting to see this."

The strike was over wages, and automation at ports, which whether the workers like it or not, will be part of the future. But it is how automation is implemented, and how it creates jobs, that is their biggest concern.

It is, not shockingly, being played off as a big win for Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, as if they solved the crisis themselves. All that happened is the negotiations, and a new strike, will now begin a mere few days before the Inauguration.

The unions are seeing through the charade the administration has been playing, which is the economy is fine, and we have never been better off. All the while those workers, who usually support them, are paying $500 for two weeks of groceries to support their families.

But it is not just the failings of the Democrats the unions are seeing. Their eyes are being opened now to the logic of Republicans.

"They can see Democrats do not stand up for them, and Donald Trump does...leadership of unions have been rocked by this shift in their membership, who now believe the Democrats no longer support them," she says. "It is a bigger sense of seeing the Republicans are on the side now of the American worker."

Georgatos adds the media is also using this as a crutch for Kamala Harris, to give her a 'win' ahead of the election.
