Texas law enforcement have completely cleared out cartel activity on an uninhabited border island
Thanks in part to Governor Greg Abbott's Operation Lone Star, Fronton Island in Starr County is now free of any cartel presence. The General Land Office, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Texas National Guard worked together to put an end to the criminal activity on the island which included human smuggling
The island sitting in the Rio Grande near the city of Roma was declared state property last year. The state National Guard and DPS have patrolled the 170-acre island ever since.
In early September, the Biden-Harris administration called on the state to put the island back to it's condition before being militarized. They claimed that Texas was trespassing on federal land.
