Vice President Kamala Harris made her first visit to the southern border in three years on Friday and her first visit there since becoming the Democratic nominee for President.
Harris delivered a speech from Cochise College Douglas Campus in Douglas, Ariz., claiming she, the current Vice President of the United States, will crack down on illegal immigration if elected President. The National Border Patrol Council released a statement criticizing the Vice President for her border appearance, saying it was nothing more than a political stunt.
"After years of not just ignoring the problem, but helping create it, Vice President Kamala is finally headed down to the border," said the Council in their statement. "This is nothing more than for her to check the box, but what it is in reality, is a slap in the face towards the men and women that put their lives on the line every day."
The VP also took jabs at former President Donald Trump, saying he did nothing to fix the country's broken immigration system.
"He separated families and tried to end protections for Dreamers," Harris said Friday in Arizona.
According to new data released from ICE, nearly 650,000 migrants who crossed the southern border have been convicted of or charged with crimes. Tens of thousands more with sex offenses and homicide convictions are currently roaming free along the streets of U.S. cities and towns.
According to Fox News, at least 7.2 million illegal immigrants entered the United States under the Biden-Harris administration as of early this year. Some sources have said that number is more than 10 million with former president Trump projecting it to be even twice that much.
