Fort Bend County Judge K.P. George has been pulled into the scandal that led to the arrest of his former chief of staff and Fort Bend Precinct 3 Commissioner candidate, Taral Patel.
Patel faces multiple charges, including four felony counts of online impersonation. Current Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers told KTRH, "There are emails that the DA's office has uncovered between Tarel Patel and the county judge, discussing the fake name Antonio Scallywag, which is the name Patel used for all of these racist, hate-filled statements that he was putting out."
Commissioner Meyers says Patel attacked George's election opponents with racist statements that were made to look like they came from supporters of other candidates. Patel also had a fake account attack himself with racist remarks, making it seem like the account belonged to a supporter of Commissioner Meyers.
Meyers told KTRH, "This is an attack on the entire Fort Bend County community. It paints all of us as racists. We're trying to attract major industry investments for good-paying jobs here in Fort Bend County, and this is going to make that more difficult."
Meyers says if Judge George is guilty of what he's been accused of, he needs to apologize to the community and resign. He also said Patel should withdraw from the race if he is guilty.
George is also being criticized for using County Sheriff's deputies to shield himself from reporters, avoiding questions about the scandal. Meyers stated, "In a time when the Sheriff’s Office is struggling to fill 130 vacancies, these deputies should have been on the streets protecting our neighborhoods, not being diverted to help stonewall the public. Fort Bend County residents deserve better from elected officials."
