The job market continues to struggle, and a significant portion of the jobs being created aren't going to American citizens. Around 78% of new jobs are going to foreign-born workers.
Steven Camarota with the Center for Immigration Studies says, "Of that, probably about 65% are illegal! So it is true that a majority of the job growth we can measure appears to be going to illegal immigrants."
Camarota explains that this is keeping wages for low-income workers even lower. "What you're doing is lowering wages for people who already don't make much money. These are people who only have a high school education and no additional schooling," he said.
He argues that this trend results from policies that undermine or outright ignore U.S. immigration laws.
