Funeral Arrangements For Murdered Carjacking Victim Announced

The family of Nelson Beckett, a 90-year-old Navy veteran who was murdered during a carjacking last Saturday, has announced that funeral arrangements have been made.

Services for Beckett will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 9th, at SW Central Church of Christ. Beckett will then be laid to rest at Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., with a reception and family visitation to follow.

Beckett's killer, Kyliel Denzel Arceneaux, is currently charged with capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence. Arceneaux is being held on a $7 million bond.

According to a prosecutor in the case, Arceneaux chose Beckett as his victim because he thought he would be an easy target. Court documents also state that Arceneaux threatened two people who attempted to help Beckett during the incident.

Arceneaux was out on bond at the time of the murder, awaiting trial for an evading arrest charge from 2022. His attorneys requested the $7 million bond be lowered, but the judge denied that request.
