After the failed impeachment of Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Texas State Senate is conducting an audit to determine how much the debacle cost taxpayers. House Speaker Dade Phelan, however, doesn't want that information to be revealed.
Former state senator and president of the Huffines Liberty Foundation, Don Huffines, told KTRH, "Speaker Phelan is directly responsible for hiding the audit, slow-playing the audit, and keeping it hidden from Texas taxpayers."
Huffines says Phelan's resistance is part of his effort to hold on to the Speaker's gavel. "When the audit comes out, he's going to be embarrassed, and he's going to be politically damaged. He's not going to let it out unless he has to," Huffines added.
He also noted that Phelan is likely to delay the process for as long as possible. So, don’t expect to know how much money was wasted on the impeachment anytime soon.
