The Supreme Court has struck down a Biden administration emergency request that would have applied changes to Title IX to include protections from discrimination for transgender students.
Under the request, biological men would have been allowed in women’s bathrooms, locker rooms and dorms in 10 states that had rules preventing it.
The rule, which included a person's gender identity under discrimination based on sex, was originally issued in April and took effect August 1. However, 26 states sued over the rule, saying it violates their state laws that prevent transgender students from participating in women’s sports.
The Supreme Court's vote Friday was 5-4.
