Seven months after leaving City Hall, former Mayor Sylvester Turner has announced his bid to fill the congressional seat left by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee.

Turner released a statement saying, “I have worked closely with the Congresswoman, U.S. Presidents, and federal departments at the highest levels during my time as mayor and 27 years in the Texas House. I am best positioned to ensure the ball is not dropped on servicing the needs of the entire 18th Congressional District.”

Turner has also said that if he won, he would not serve more than two years. Gov. Abbott has set the special election for November 5th, the same date as the general election.
