Despite efforts to ban the practice in Texas, Chinese Communist Party-affiliated businesses and individuals can still buy Texas farmland, and they're buying a lot of it. Brandon Waltens with the Texas Scorecard says this shouldn't be a complicated issue.

Waltens told KTRH, "The Texas House is trying to say 'Oh well we're working on this.' And yet even in recent hearings where they're studying this issue, you can already see they're trying to water down the bill."

Now the Texas Farm Bureau is proposing that there simply be a public disclosure when Texas land is sold to CCP-affiliated entities. Waltens says that doesn't do nearly enough. He said, "When we have China buying up hundreds of thousands of acres of Texas farmland, this is a national security issue. This is something that needs to be taken care of."

A bill to ban the sale of Texas land to CCP-affiliated entities was passed out of the Texas Senate during the last session, but it never made it to the floor of the Texas House. Waltens thinks there will be more focus placed on the issue this session, and we should see more progress on it.
