Yesterday, on the fourth and final day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, former President Donald Trump formally accepted the GOP nomination for President and gave his first speech since the attempted assassination.

Trump spoke for over an hour and a half, saying, "Together we will launch a new era of safety, prosperity, and freedom." He also addressed the division in society, stating, "We rise together, or we fall apart."

Trump also spoke about the attempted assassination, telling the story from his perspective for the very first time. He said, "I’ll tell you what happened, and you’ll never hear it from me a second time, because it’s too painful to tell."

Trump went on to speak out about the lawfare he has endured since taking office in 2016. He said, "If Democrats want to unify our country, they should drop these partisan witch hunts which I have been dealing with for approximately eight years."

Trump described this as an example of the criminalization of dissent and the demonizing of disagreements.

Trump ended his speech by saying, "No matter what dangers come our way, no matter what obstacles lay in our path, we will keep striving towards our shared and glorious destiny, and we will not fail."
