Democrats' beliefs of a too MAGA Supreme Court are out of touch

The United States Supreme Court has not become a MAGA institution, despite Democrat's claims.

According to The Wall Street Journal's editorial board, 43.8% of the term's decisions were unanimous, which is down slightly from 2022.

"Today's Supreme Court takes a textualist and originalist view of legal questions, but it's no MAGA [Make America Great Again] court," the board wrote in a column this week.

Jared Woodfill, chairman of the Harris County Republican Party from 2002 to 2014 and owner of Woodfill Law Firm, agrees.

"We've got a majority of folks who are looking at the Constitution and interpreting it with respect to it's original intent," he said.

The Supreme Court Justices have issued 6-3 decisions on 22 cases. There have been several unanimous 9-0 rulings in some high-profile cases in recent years including cases on abortion and gun rights and the decision that Colorado cannot keep former President Donald Trump's name off the 2024 ballot.

Woodifll said Democrats don't like the fact that the Supreme Court are using the original text to determine if a statute or law is constitutional or not.

"They (Democrats) want a Constitution that's interpreted as a living, breathing document that changes with their ideology," said Woodfill.

According to Woodfill, the Democrat party believes some of the Supreme Court's opinions are too in line with the views of former president Donald Trump and go against their worldview.

"We want a president who will appoint Justices that will follow the text of the Constitution," Woodfill said. "We want Justices that are originalists instead of Justices that create or make law."
