Americans are coming in towards the bottom regarding how many vacation days they're taking.
Expedia recently came out with their 24th annual vacation deprivation report which found that 65% of Americans surveyed said they felt they don't take enough time off. That's the highest rate in 11 years.
The study found that the average number of days Americans take off is 11. Best-selling author and keynote speaker Josh Evans has a few reasons as to why that's the case.
"Some individuals feel guilty when they take vacation days because of this proliferation of a 'hustle culture,'" he said. "Also, some Americans feel that they can't afford to take days off."
People are also worried that taking time off would negatively affect their careers.
11,580 people from 11 different countries participated in the survey in March and April. Americans are almost twice as likely to go a year or more without taking a vacation, compared to the rest of the world. Around 19% of Americans even added that they will save up their vacation days and end up not even going.
Evans encourages people to take the right amount of time off from work in order to improve their mental health and maximize their productivity when they return to work.
"Vacation is truly regenerative and allows people to come back to work with a renewed interest and a renewed sense of purpose behind the work that they're doing," Evans said.
